When Should You Take Your Engagement Photos?

I get asked this question frequently: “When should we take our engagement photos?!”

Truthfully, you can take them whenever you want, BUT there are some things you should think about. Here are three things that could help you make your decision!

  1. Do you want to use your engagement photos on save the dates? If so, you’ll want to take them as soon as possible. This gives your photographer time to edit and deliver, then you time to design, print, and send them to guests.

  2. Do you want photos in a different season than your wedding photos? My husband and I got married in the summer and did engagement photos in the winter. We were so happy with our decision, but there is also the flip side! If you’re having a longer engagement and if you do your photos in the same season it’s so fun to see how you’ve grown, changed, and loved over the past year!

  3. Oh, but what about a destination engagement?! This is a fun little trip for you and your sweetie (well, and plus ME!!), but this is something you will need to plan in advance. Planning in advance will allow for cheaper travel, and nice turnaround time on photos.

    *PEEP* BONUS ADVICE!!

If you are planning a hair appointment, ladies or gentlemen, (cut, trim, balayage, etc.), I would advise doing this a week or two before your session. And, I would also advise the ladies to get their nails done a few days before their photo session to compliment that shiny new ring.
