Winter Engagement Session in Minnesota

Nothing screams “classic Minnesota” like a winter engagement session at a tree farm or with the tall northern pines. Deanna and Stephen were so awesome about running around on a cold December day, and they even brought their sweet Aussie pup, Sam, to celebrate.

With this beautiful and magical winter setting though, comes planning! Often times, winter sessions are in the cold frozen weather. Embrace the layering of outfits and sweaters, and hold your loved ones close.

Read below to get four additional tips on how to expertly navigate your winter engagement session!

  1. INCLUDE YOUR FAVORITE ACTIVITY TOGETHER OR COZY ITEMS.

It could be ice skating, bringing your adorable pup, curling up on a blanket with hot chocolate, or making a bonfire to help make your photos adorable and unique.

2. PLAY IN THE SNOW.

While this may seem obvious, it can definitely be cold so it’s important to be prepared. Wear mittens and bring hand warmers to prevent frozen hands after a snowball fight, running around in a snowy field, or showing off your gorgeous ring!

3. ADD A POP OF COLOR IN YOUR OUTFITS.

Here is a list of color combinations that can go well together and against a white, snowy background.

  • Green, red, and gold

  • Emerald and burgundy

  • Dusty blue and blush

  • Red, white, and black

  • Forest green, rust, and tan

  • Gold and cream

  • White, cream, and grey

  • Black and white

  • Grey, navy, and burgundy

4. SHOWCASE FALLEN SNOW.

While weather and snowfall can’t be predicated or forced to happen, embrace the snowflakes and take advantage of its beauty when it does happen! Nothing screams magic in winter photos like fresh falling snow (and personally, I will not say no to taking pictures in the snow!).
